  • Who are FACCTs?

    FACCTs brings innovative computational chemistry solutions to industry. We are a deep-tech start-up with first-class contacts to industry and academia. We are a spin-off from the Max Planck Society, where ORCA – our flagship program – is being developed. ORCA is combining speed & accuracy in quantum chemical calculations. With more than 90.000 academic users it is one of the most popular programs among its competitors.
    FACCTs offers computational chemistry solutions to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry – with currently more than 60 industry partners. We aim at democratizing quantum chemical workflows, i.e. enabling scientists and engineers to tap the full potential of quantum chemistry, without the usual need for expert knowledge and experience. That is why we also develop new software solutions that automate and simplify ORCA’s usage (using Python and Web technologies).

     

    Where is FACCTs located?

    The FACCTs office is located in Cologne, Germany. Currently we work part-time remote, part-time in the office.

     

    What will you do?

    You will help realizing a web application that enables scientists to explore molecular structures and computational datasets through advanced 2D and 3D visualizations. As a mid- to senior level front-end engineer, you will help to define and implement a modern, scalable UI architecture and deliver high-quality visualization components.

     

    Responsibilities?

    • Build and maintain a modular front-end codebase.
    • Develop interactive 2D and 3D visualizations for molecular and scientific data.
    • Implement reusable UI components and data-driven visual analytics workflows.
    • Establish testing workflows across component, integration, and end-to-end layers.

    Requirements:

    • Strong experience building front-end applications in JavaScript/TypeScript.
    • Proficiency with at least one modern framework (React, Svelte, Vue, or similar).
    • Experience with complex data visualizations.
    • Experience with testing tools for different layers such as Storybook, Jest, Puppeteer.

    Beneficial Experience:

    • Background or familiarity with chemistry, life sciences, physics, or another related field.
    • Experience with WebGL/Three.js/Babylon.js or scientific 3D rendering.
    • Experience integrating high-performance modules such as WebAssembly.
